A space heater can become a noticeable electricity expense when it operates for many hours because electric resistance heating can have a high power draw.

A 1500-watt heater running 4 hours per day for 30 days at $0.16 per kWh would cost about $28.80 per month. At 8 hours per day, the estimate doubles to $57.60.

This assumes full power for the entire period. A thermostat can reduce actual operating time by cycling the heating element.

If a heater has multiple settings, calculate each setting separately. A 750-watt setting uses half the power of a 1500-watt setting while operating, although it may require more time to heat a space.
